Since 1927 NGS gardens all over England and Wales have been opening their gates for charity. And today there are 3,500 of them. Most are privately owned. Many are open a few times a year. But they’re all interesting and full of character. Like the two walled kitchen gardens at Hotel Maes-y-Neuadd, Talsarnau. The Broughton and Bretton Area Allotments used by local to grow vegetables. And the unrestored gardens at Beaver Grove House near Betws y Coed. Bigger commercial gardens take part, too. All told, NGS projects raise £2million each year for a huge range of charities. From cancer care, to training National Trust gardeners. Contact the County Organisers below, or visit the NGS website to find your local open gardens, or to see how you can open your garden for charity.

Royal Horticultural Society has been going since 1804. Today it’s the leading gardening charity in the UK. The nice people at RHS are committed to bringing the benefits of gardening to as many people as possible. They encourage and inspire people to share their passion for gardening. Or to take it up for the first time. They run educational programmes and plant trials. And community programmes to regenerate local environments. Their work is funded by membership, donations, sponsorship and income from events like the Chelsea Flower Show, Spring Flower Show Cardiff and Tatton Park Flower Show. Visit the website to find out how you can get involved.
